To tackle these, the game introduces a unique mini-game called Digipicking, reminiscent of the traditional lockpicking systems seen in previous Bethesda titles.
How to Digipick
Digipicking relies on the player's dexterity, observation, and a collection of digital keys, or Digipicks, to unlock various digital locks throughout the game. Here's how to master the art of Digipicking:
- Choose the Right Key Shape: The lock interface displays a prominent circle filled with distinct gaps. Players need to select the correct Digipick key shape that matches these gaps.
- Slot Key into Correct Spaces: After identifying the right Digipick key, players must rotate it to ensure that it aligns seamlessly with the gaps. Confirm the key placement by pressing "A".
- Repeat the Process: Depending on the complexity of the lock, players may need to repeat the above steps with multiple Digipick keys to fully unlock it.
- Auto-Slot for Quick Solutions: In certain instances, players can use their saved auto-slot attempts to instantly solve a Digipick puzzle. This is especially handy for tackling the tougher locks or when running low on Digipick keys.
Digipicking Difficulty Levels
The difficulty of the Digipick puzzles corresponds to the player's Security Skill within the Tech skill branch:
- Rank 1: Enables players to unlock Advanced locks.
- Rank 2: Grants access to Expert locks.
- Rank 3: Allows players to tackle Master locks.
- Rank 4: Provides a QoL improvement by letting players remove redundant keys from the puzzle interface, simplifying the Digipick process.
Acquiring More Digipicks
Throughout their journey in Starfield, players will inevitably need a steady supply of Digipicks. Here's how to replenish your stock:
- Purchase from Vendors: Various vendors and shops in major in-game cities will have Digipicks up for sale. It's advisable to stock up whenever possible.
- Looting: Players can find Digipicks by looting containers, downed enemies, and other points of interest across the galaxy. With a keen eye for exploration, one might seldom find the need to purchase them.
