You can gain XP by doing a variety of actions:

Tips For Skills

  • Boost Pack Training: Boost packing around an environment is a fun and effective method for quickly flanking enemies or reaching higher ground. Choose the ‘Boost Pack Training’ Skill and then equip a Boost Pack to use this ability. See Tech - Skills - Starfield or more information on this Skill line.
  • Stealth: The Stealth Meter that indicates your current detection state will appear once you choose the Stealth Skill, providing you with more feedback. You can still sneak and perform sneak attacks without this Skill. See Physical - Skills - Starfield for more information on this Skill line.
  • Pickpocketing – The ability to Pickpocket targets is available when you choose the Theft Skill. See Social - Skills - Starfield for more information on this Skill line.
  • Targeting Control Systems – This Skill allows you to target specific systems on enemy ships (Shields, Engines, Lasers, etc), making it easier to disable a ship’s engine and attempt to board. See Tech - Skills - Starfield for more information on this Skill line
  • Lockpicking – You can attempt to pick Novice-level locks by default. Invest a Skill Point into ‘Security’ to attempt to unlock more difficult safes, lockers, doors, or other locked devices. Switch between pick configurations using [LB]and [RB] on the Xbox Controller or [Q] and [T] for PC Keyboard while on the lockpicking screen. See Tech - Skills - Starfield for more information on this Skill line

Outposts and Extreme Environments – Building an Outpost on a planet with an ‘Extreme Environment’ is not possible until you unlock the *Outpost Engineering Skill. You can tell if a planet has an ‘Extreme Environment’ by scanning it once you are in orbit. See Science - Skills - Starfield for more information on this Skill line
