Starfield is a vast universe where you may find yourself running into, or even causing trouble. If you hassle the people of the Universe too much, you may wind up receiving a bounty placed on yourself.

Receiving a Bounty

If you receive a bounty while in space, the areas you are welcomed may be limited, creating issues when trying to land on planets, or when simply exploring the galaxy as you will be arrested and/or attacked.

TIP

If you are stuck and not able to locate a Bounty Hunter or a Self-Service Bounty Clearance Station, you can "rest" on your Starship for three days to reset any hate you may currently have, but in the long term, it may be best to take care of this bounty.

Note: If you pay the bounty, all items that are marked as "stolen" in your inventory will be removed.

Clearing a Bounty

There are three main ways to clear a bounty: Visit a Bounty Hunter, be found by a Bounty Hunter, or use a Self-Service Bounty Clearance station.

Visit a Bounty Hunter

If you are able to land on an inhabited planet, locate a Bounty Hunter. The Bounty Hunter below is found in Cydonia.

Be Found by a Bounty Hunter

If you are not able to land at a city without being attacked upon entry, you may have luck if you try to fly to a remote area and a Bounty Hunter may find and hail you. If you accept their Hail you will have the option of paying the bounty, or choosing to fight them. If you pay the bounty, not only will you avoid this fight, but they will pay off the bounty of any adversaries you may have upset.

Self-Service Bounty Clearance Boards

These can be found on inhabited planets, space stations and also via one you build in an Outpost.

Create/Use your Outpost's Self-Service Bounty Clearance Board

If you would rather deal with these issues on your own, fly to one of your own outposts, or land on a planet that does not have extreme conditions so that you can create an outpost. If you don't have one already, you can build a Self Service Bounty Clearance board in any outposts you own.
